Ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, former South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette has quickly become a household name. But that doesn’t mean the Mullins, S.C. native has forgot about his roots.
On Monday, Legette returned to hometown to donate brand new football equipment to Mullins High School.

“I’m proud to be from Mullins. It will always be home for me,” said Legette, who graduated from Mullins High in 2019. “The years I spent at Mullins High School are memories I will hold on to for a long time. It was great to be able to give back to the football program.”
Some of the items that Legette gifted included several variations of tackling dummies, blocking guards, agility ladders, hurdles, and yard markers. In addition, every player on the Auctioneers’ roster also received a gift bags that was hand picked by Legette.
“Xavier donating equipment was a big deal for us,” said Donald Brown, an assistant football coach at Mullins. “Since I’ve been there, which is about ten years, we haven’t got any new equipment. So getting this equipment helps a lot. The players were very excited since, like I said, we just don’t get much equipment around here. I’m so excited because this is just the beginning of what he wants to do for Mullins football.”

Giving back is not something new for Legette. Just last summer he held a youth football camp that welcomed nearly 350 campers. He’s also paired up with Garnet Trust in the past to take children Christmas shopping. It’s something the future NFL wide out wants to continue to do, especially for a place that means so much for him.
“A lot of those kids I’m still close with. Donating equipment I know they need, I know they’ll put it to good use. As I get busy with visits and meetings, I still wanted to make time to go back home and see everyone.”
Named one of the ten finalists for the Blanchard-Rogers Trophy, which recognizes the top wide receiver in college football annually, Legette led South Carolina in 2023 with 71 receptions for 1,255 yards, and seven receiving touchdowns. His play, combined with posting strong numbers at the NFL Combine and Pro Day, has many NFL Draft experts believing that he could be drafted late in the first round.
The NFL Draft is set to begin on Thursday April 25 in Detroit, MI. Legette will look to become just the 16 Gamecock ever drafted in the first round and the first since defensive Jaycee Horn in 2021.
