Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview High School five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews took a full slate of official visits in June. Now, he is ready to announce a commitment decision on the On3 Sports YouTube channel.

Matthews will announce his college commitment at 7pm on Wednesday and decide between Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee and Southern California.

Tennessee hosted Matthews on his final official visit of June during the weekend of June 23rd. The multi-day stopped allowed the five-star to get the questions he wanted answered.

“I really wanted to learn more about the offense,” Matthews told Volquest following the visit. “Some people have concerns about their style of offense, but wherever you feel like you are comfortable and wherever you feel like you can produce at, that is the best place for you.”

The top Vol, Josh Heupel’s, message throughout the weekend was also apparent during the visit to Matthews and stood out.

“He was telling me how they like to get the ball in their best player’s hands to try and make plays,” Matthews told Volquest of this. “He feels like my body type and the type of player that I am; I’m able to be spread across the field as a receiver. I’m not too big; I’m not too small. I’m in the middle and can do it all. He likes that about me and really thinks I’m going to be able to be a great player in his offense. They said with the type of skills I have, they would be able to get me in space and let me make big plays.”

Matthews also spent quality time around the two guys tasked with running the quarterback position in the future for Tennessee’s offense, Jake Merklinger and Nico Iamaleava. This was important to him as well.

“It was important (being around them),” he said of this in June. “A receiver is only as good as their QB, and to have people like that, Nico and Jake are both great quarterbacks, and I have great relationships with both of them. To have people like that around me, and to build connections with players, you don’t really always do that. It is a real good connection with them.”
