AJ Causey picks up SEC Pitcher of the Week honor
Tennessee pitcher AJ Causey picked up some hardware following his Volunteer debut this weekend as the right-handed reliever was named Co-SEC Pitcher of the Week for his efforts Friday night during a 6-2 win over No. 21 Texas Tech.
The league made the announcement on Monday.
The former Jacksonville State hurler earned the win in relief for the Vols in the season-opener after tossing 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball with seven strikeouts while allowing only two hits. Causey retired 11 of the 12 batters he faced over the final four innings, setting the stage for the Vols’ first win at the Shriners Children’s College Baseball Showdown.
“Not really,” Causey told Volquest when asked if his debut could have gone any better. “I was telling some of my teammates that nothing compared to that last inning. I’ve never felt a feeling when you know the whole crowd, 0-2 [count], starts chanting. It was awesome. It couldn’t have gone better.”
