Linebacker Christian Gass Talks After Tennessee Official Visit

Atlanta area linebacker Christian Gass came to Tennessee this weekend to round out his official visits for June. Volquest caught up with him to discuss the trip.

“It was great,” Gass said. “The first time I was here I didn’t get to learn too much because it was a junior day ant there were a lot of guys. This time I got more in depth with academics, just learning the defensive scheme and getting to know the coaches more. I got to see how they would use me knowing that I couple play inside and outside linebacker. That was a big deal for me just coming up here and seeing that.”

Gass spent time with the Tennessee staff and liked what he continues to learn about Josh Heupel and his group in particularly new linebackers coach William Inge.

“This was first time me and coach Inge got to sit down with meetings and stuff. I liked how he said down and explained his scheme to me and the things that I could do at inside linebacker. Spending time with him and all the coaches was great. We are building a great relationship.”

Tennessee likes his versatility where he could play some linebacker and also rush the passer. He enjoyed his time socially and getting a feel for the area but at the end of the day it was really about football.

“We were on the lake. We went on a boat. That’s something I have never done,” Gass said when asked about the weekend highlights. “But honestly just spending time with the coaches. There’s a lot of visits you go on and it’s just the coaches talking. Here it was very interactive. They got me on the board drawing up my scheme and their scheme. That was the big things for me just knowing that they were going to teach me and not just talk to me.”

So where does Gass go from here? It’s time to work toward a decision.

“Tennessee is real high. Very high. They definitely moved up. They weren’t up there at first but now they are definitely high on my board. It’s between Tennessee, Georgia and USC. I will announce the second or third week of July. The school will know next week. I will tell the school next week. I have a pretty good idea of where I am right now. It’s just a matter of sitting down with my family. It’s my decision, but it’s good to get everyone’s input.

“Honestly it will be comfort level, understanding their defense and how they use me. That’s a big deal.”
