How Dalton Knecht performed for the Rising Stars in the NBA All-Star Game

Dalton Knecht combined to scored 20 points for the NBA’s Rising Stars team while adding eight rebounds and four assists during his two nights on the floor during the NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco.
Knecht led the NBA Rising Stars and Team Candace with eight points Sunday night against Team Shaq, going 3-for-6 from the field, including 2-for-4 from the 3-point line, with two rebounds in his 11 minutes.
Team Shaq won 40-35 — the All-Star game format was changed to a four-team tournament, with the winner determined by the first team to score 40 points in an untimed game — thanks to nine points from Damian Lillard and eight each from Steph Curry and Jaylen Brown.
Knecht had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists over two games on Friday night, with the Rising Stars also split into a four-team tournament.
“I think it’s kind of fun how they had us set up with the old heads with the young stars and then Rising Stars,” Knecht said Sunday night. “I think that’s pretty cool.”
Dalton Knecht this season: 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 20.6 minutes per game
Knecht is averaging 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists in the first 49 games of his rookie season with the Lakers, after being selected with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft last June.
He was at the center of one of the biggest storylines at the NBA trade deadline last week, when he was shipped to the Charlotte Hornets in a deal for Los Angeles to acquire center Mark Williams.
The Lakers were in the market for a center after trading Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic in a blockbuster move.

Knecht on the Lakers making a playoff run: ‘(LeBron) will lead us there, him and Luka’
Knecht made his on-court return with the Lakers last Wednesday in a road loss to the Utah Jazz, scoring 10 points in 17 minutes off the bench.
“It’ll be fun playing with Luka,” Knecht said Sunday night. “I’ve only played one game, but it’ll be exciting. You never know when he’s going to throw the ball. You seen those passes he’s throwing it to Rui (Hachimura), AR (Austin Reaves) and all those dunks.”
The Lakers are fifth in the Western Conference standings at the All-Star Break with a 32-20 record. Knecht said he expects LeBron James to get his team back in the playoffs.
“His energy is, for sure, on another level,” Knecht said. “He’s going in there and making sure we’re all juiced up and amped up to play. He’ll lead us there, him and Luka. Go out there and play and get in the Playoffs and stuff like that.”
Knecht Sunday night was already thinking about a return trip to the NBA All-Star Game next year — Los Angeles is hosting the All-Star Weekend — and adding the 3-point contest to the list.
“Next year in L.A.?” Knecht asked. “… Next year in L.A.”
