Drew Gilbert selected to 2023 MLB All-Star Futures Game roster

Former Tennessee All-American Drew Gilbert has been selected to participate in the legendary SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at T-Mobile Park during Major League Baseball’s All-Star festivities in Seattle, Washington. The game will be played on Saturday, July 8 at 7 o’clock eastern time and will be televised exclusively on Peacock.
Drew Gilbert was selected in the first round – 28th overall – by the Houston Astros in the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft. The outfielder, who is currently tabbed as the Astros top-prospect, becomes the fifth Volunteer to be selected for the showcase, joining the likes of Nick Senzel (2017), Christin Stewart (2016), Luke Hochevar (2007) and Chris Burke (2003, 2004).
The MLB Futures Games features ‘the stars of tomorrow’ and allows fans to see who could be next on All-Star level. The 2023 Futures game featured 28 (of 50) participants who are currently ranked inside MLB Pipeline’s Top-100 Prospect Rankings.
Gilbert started his professional career spending parts of the 2022 summer with the Astros Rookie League affiliate and Single-A affiliate. He began the 2023 campaign, his first full-season as a professional, with the Ashville Tourists before getting the call up from the South Atlantic League’s Single-A Advanced to the Double-A affiliate of Corpus Cristi, where he is currently batting .202 with two home runs and 10 RBI. For the season overall, Gilbert is averaging .265 at the plate with eight home runs, 28 RBI and seven stolen bases.
