A record-setting season for Dylan Sampson has continued to lead to recognition following the 2024 regular season.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sampson was named as the SEC Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press.

“Sampson led the SEC and set school records by rushing for 1,485 yards and 22 touchdowns,” the release from the Associated Press said. “He is tied for third nationally in rushing touchdowns, recording the league’s fifth-most in a season. Sampson was chosen on all but two ballots. Mississippi wide receiver Tre Harris and his quarterback, Jaxson Dart, each got a vote.”

Chosen as one of two running backs for the All-SEC first team, Sampson was a unanimous vote getter on those ballots. He was one of just two offensive players, along with Texas Offensive Tackle Kelvin Banks, to be a unanimous selection.

Sampson led the league in 11 different categories following the 2024 regular season. He will look to pace Tennessee’s offensive attack yet again in their upcoming playoff showdown against Ohio State later this month on December 21st.

“He’s the best back in the country in my opinion,” Tennessee Running Backs Coach De’Rail Sims said in late November. “In terms of production, and he’s been able to produce especially in this league and conference. Being able to be with him every single day, the way that he goes and attacks the process. The things that he’s been able to do from a tenacity standpoint in terms of when the team needs a spark plug, he’s able to be that guy that jumps us. Coach (Josh) Heupel always talks about it, but it only takes one match to start a fire. A lot of times we get in a critical situation and he’s that guy that jumpstarts the fire and gets us rolling in the right way. In my opinion, he’s the best back in the country.”
