Elite Ohio State CB commit Jontae Gilbert set to visit Tennessee again
2025 Douglass High School (Ga.) defensive back Jontae Gilbert has been committed to Ohio State for months, but the elite prospect has continued to maintain he will take visits.
On Thursday, Gilbert told Volquest he plans to take another visit to Tennessee on May 31st. He was last in Knoxville in March for a visit he described as “great.”
“It was a great visit,” Gilbert told Volquest. “My favorite part was getting to explore the campus and hang out with Coach Heup one-on-one. I got to talk with Coach (Willie) Martinez and Coach (Tim) Banks more, so that was great.”
The message from the Vols was simple and to the point. They see multiple fits in the secondary for a prospect like Gilbert.
“They love my tape, and they really said I could play all of the positions (in the secondary),” Gilbert said at the time of his biggest takeaways from the conversation with the staff. “They said I could play safety, nickel and cornerback, so that was great to hear. That meant a lot. It made me feel like they want me and need me at the same time.”

Willie Martinez was recently by Douglass High School during the evaluation period to check on the elite prospect. While the evaluation period does not allow coaches to contact recruits in-person, they can watch them go through practice or workouts.
Gilbert is currently rated as the nation’s 25th-overall prospect and fourth-best cornerback, according to the 2025 On3 rankings.
Other programs that have Gilbert’s attention outside of Ohio State are USC, Georgia, and Alabama, among a few others.
