Family vibe puts Christian Gass in orange
Tennessee continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail. Georgia linebacker Christian Gass picked the orange over the red and black of his home state Bulldogs. There was that moment where he knew Rocky Top was for him.
“Just sitting back and realizing on my visit I had a great time here,” Gass said. “Just knowing I can learn this scheme and it’s not a very hard scheme like coach Banks said. He doesn’t want you sitting back and thinking. He just wants you to play and know what you are doing.”
The ability to learn from veteran defensive coaches also played a big role in his decision.
“Knowing I can sit here and learn from a different coaching staff,” Gass told Volquest. “Some of the new coaching staff that came in are definitely great guys and you know I can see that they care about you not only as a person but as a player. Just being around them I get a very family oriented vibe from them and it’s just overall a great place.”
Gass brings versatility to the linebacker position. He can play inside backer and then slide outside and bring heat off the edge.
“That’s the big thing as when I came up here the one thing I wanted to get settled was if I could play inside and outside backer,” Gass said. “They see me playing a little bit of Mike and Will and Leo. That’s the good thing about my game.

“I love the edge. It’s fun. I can do both so why would I settle for less.”
Gass likes how Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks plays aggressive.
“He is a great guy and is about his business,” Gass said. “Knowing he has a lot of time as a defensive coordinator I feel like he can set me up for the best position for my future.”
Gass can’t wait to wear orange for Josh Heupel
When we asked him about Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel, he got a big smile on his face.
“That’s my guy,” Gass said. “Just being around him, of all my visits it’s the most time I spent with a head coach. Going out on the lake with him, it wasn’t all football talk. It was a comfortable feeling.”
Maybe the most instrumental person in his recruitment was coach Chop (Levorn Harbin) as the Vols defensive quality control specialist continues to leave an impact in recruiting.
“He played a big part just letting me know I’m a priority,” Gass said. “Coach Chop doesn’t miss a beat. He is going to call your phone every day. He is going to check up on you. He is going to make sure he wants you to be here.”
