Five Vols named Top 75 Freshmen by Perfect Game
Perfect Game has been rolling out plenty of preseason content this week and on Wednesday, the publication had five Vols mentioned inside their top-75 freshmen ahead of the 2025 season.
Utility Jay Abernathy was the highest-rated Volunteer newcomer at No. 6 while fellow utility Levi Clark checked in at No. 21. A pair of right-handed hurlers were next with Tegan Kuhns at No. 46 and Anson Seibert at No. 52. Infielder Manuelle Marin finished off the Vols in the list, coming in at No. 56.
Abernathy leads the conversation as the ‘tooled-up’ prospect made a bevy of highlight plays in fall practice. He threw out a guy at home with an outfield assist from left field during one of the situational scrimmages, drove in two runs against Western Kentucky and homered a few times during the intrasquad scrimmages. There’s versatility to his game as he can play the outfield and second base. He’s fast too and will be one of Tennessee’s best base runners. Could he start in left field this spring? Time will tell.

From PG: “Jay Abernathy, one of the best athletes in Georgia. Plus/Plus speed with pure MIF actions. Quick left-handed swing.” | ’24 Perfect Game Ranking: No. 61
Clark can hit as he took Nate Snead deep in Chattanooga during Game 1 of the fall World Series. The question will be, where will he play defensively? He’s saw action behind the plate, at first base and in left field over the fall. He will be a bat to watch off the bench this spring and has a glove to play all around the diamond.
From PG: “Athletic catcher with big power at the plate. Huge 2023 summer (.529-2-9 at WWBA 18U). MVP at PG SE Memorial Day Classic. PG All-American.” | ’24 Perfect Game Ranking: No. 36
Kuhns is on track to be one of those weekend starters. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound freshman impressed this fall going up against some of Tennessee’s best hitters. His fastball sits in the mid-90s with a plus curveball. Though he left fall as a frontrunner to open the season as a weekend starter, he needs continued work coming on in preseason.

From PG: “Slender projectable build. Up to 94 mph at PG National AA Classic with more to come. Also has a power curveball with near 3,000 RMP spin rates.” | ’24 Perfect Game Ranking: No. 45
Seibert was drafted in the latter rounds this past summer but elected to come to Tennessee for college. An injury in spring that derailed his senior campaign hurt his draft stock. The injury is one that will likely sideline him for at least part of the 2025 freshman campaign in Knoxville.
From PG: “Long & uber-projectable 6-foot-9 frame with an easy release. Outstanding at PG Underclass AA Games. Better at AA Classic. Sat 95-96 mph. Tyler Glasnow comp.” | ’24 Perfect Game Ranking: No. 35
Marin played all over the infield in fall (excluding first base) and has a glove to be a utility off the bench of late inning defensive replacement.
From PG: “Smooth & rangy defender. Soft hands with body control. Simple swing in the box. Ball already jumps. Still projects.” | ’24 Perfect Game Ranking: No. 88
