Freshmen participation tracker: Tennessee-Austin Peay

Touted Defenders Only Ones to Get Meaningful Work
Tennessee had hoped to see newcomers get plenty of work on each side of the football against Austin Peay, but after a sluggish first half, the Vols were not able to make this happen.
11 true freshmen checked into the game on Saturday, but only four of them logged non-special teams snaps in Arion Carter, Daevin Hobbs, Jeremiah Telander and Caleb Herring.
Hobbs logged the most snaps among the grouping, and he continues to get some rotational work for the Vols. The former five-star recruit recorded three total tackles on Saturday.

Mid-state standouts Arion Carter and Caleb Herring both saw work on Saturday, but there time on the field did not show up on the stat sheet. Carter recorded just one tackle, while Herring did not record a stat.
With veteran linebacker Keenan Pili sidelined with an upper body injury, freshman Jeremiah Telander got more work on Saturday. Telander was very productive in his 20 snaps, as he recorded 6 total tackles. He earned praise from Josh Heupel during the post-game press conference.
“A guy that we have great trust in this athletic (ability). He’s gonna continue to grow and develop as a young player, but (we) believe that he can play at this level. And he got out there and did some really positive things tonight.”
