Transfer OT Zalance Heard one step closer to Tennessee

The were originally scheduled to start on Monday but due to the snow this week in East Tennessee the start of classes have been pushed back a day.
Heard visited Josh Heupel and the Vols on Saturday, January the 6th for a few hours before going to visit Oklahoma, who has been the other finalized for him in the portal.

Heard played in 5 games in 2023, logging 195 snaps.
The offensive tackle position was a priority of need for the Vols in the transfer portal. Gerald Mincey transferred to Kentucky and Tennessee only has two tackles returning in 2024 in John Campbell and Dayne Davis who have played meaningful snaps. Freshman Sham Umarov, along with Brian Grant and junior college transfer Brian Grant all logged snaps in mop up duty at tackle in 2023.
Campbell, who played left tackle all season for the Vols after transferring from Miami, posted videos on social media of himself working at right tackle earlier this week.
Heard would make the 7th addition to the Vols roster through the transfer portal.
Tennessee players are returning to campus this weekend to start classes and the first quarter off-season program ahead of the start of spring practice which will begin on March 18th following the spring break.
