Heavily used Tennessee reliever to enter transfer portal

Tennessee left-handed pitcher Dylan Loy, who led the Southeastern Conference with 33 appearances in 2025, is entering the transfer portal, sources told Volquest.
The sophomore from nearby Pigeon Forge High School was a mainstay for the Vols and Frank Anderson’s bullpen this past spring, totaling a 3.97 ERA and 4-0 record across 34 innings with 36 strikeouts to 11 walks. Opponents hit .180 against the southpaw.
Loy served in a variety of roles for Tennessee this past season as versatility was a major asset. At minimum, the lefty was used in a specialist role. Most of the time, Loy was called on to be a bridge guy from one pitcher to the next and was asked to toss multiple times over a weekend series.
The hurler also had length to his game, throwing 3.2 innings of one-run ball against Auburn on May 3. Loy was also called on to start for the Vols in the Knoxville Regional Game 6 against Wake Forest. In 2024, the then freshman pitched 4.2 innings of relief in the SEC Tournament title contest against LSU after starter AJ Russell left with injury following the first inning.
Loy was a 2024 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Summer League Tour Participant and was tabbed a Second-Team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association as a rookie. The lefty has two years of eligibility remaining and leaves behind a big hole in the Tennessee bullpen.

Baseball Transfer Portal
The 2025 non-graduate transfer portal opened on June 2 and will remain open until July 1. Players must have their name entered in the transfer portal by July 1 if they want to move on, but new destinations do not have to be made by that time.
The Vols have benefited greatly from the transfer portal in recent cycles, reeling in the likes of Chase Dollander (2022), Griffin Merritt (2023), Maui Ahuna (2023), Zane Denton (2023), Billy Amick (2024), Cannon Peebles (2024), AJ Causey (2024), Chris Stamos (2024), Liam Doyle (2025), Andrew Fischer (2025) and Gavin Kilen (2025).
So far, Tennessee has five portal additions in right-handed pitchers Clay Edmondson (UNC Asheville), Mason Estrada (MIT), Bo Rhudy (Kennesaw State), Brady Frederick (ETSU) and utility Garrett Wright (Bowling Green). Tennessee has also added junior college players such as RHP Matt Barr (SUNY Niagara) and Tyler Myatt (Walters State) and picked up catcher Trent Grindlinger as a late add to the 2025 class in recent weeks.
Tennessee has now lost eight players to the transfer portal so far: INF Jack Jones, INF Robinson Martin, LHP Bryson Thacker, RHP Brayden Sharp, RHP Austin Hunley, RHP Thomas Crabtree, OF Colby Backus and LHP Ryler Smart.
