Impact Analysis: Douglas Utu
Tennessee picked up another pledge on Monday when Bishop Gorman offensive lineman Douglas Utu committed to the Vols. Volquest delivers the Impact Analysis of what his decision means for Rocky Top.
Utu came off his official visit to Tennessee this weekend and was quick to go public after telling the staff before leaving campus.
“I would say the thing I like most is the football,” Utu said of what has continued to stand out to him about the Vols. “Just the way they run the ball and they are the most successful ball runners in the SEC.”
The relationship with Glen Elarbee was pivotal as Utu committed amongst family on his visit.
The Scout
“Douglas Utu is a prospect that has been on the national radar for some time. He’s been a standout on the offensive line at powerhouse Bishop Gorman for several seasons. Despite projecting inside longterm, Utu has primarily worked at tackle for Gorman. So he’s polished and experienced in pass protection. He’s also physically developed and is a prospect who comes into college with a higher floor given the coaching and competitive football he’s played to this point. Utu is a solid athlete with versatility to play a few different spots on the line if needed.”

What it means for Tennessee
Tennessee now has three offensive lineman committed for the 2025 class. They wanted to add some key pieces on interior and now have some nice options as Utu joins Antoni Ogumoro and Nic Moore.
Tennessee is set to lose several key older offensive lineman after this coming season with most of them coming from the guard and center positions.
Tennessee will now focus on adding offensive tackles with David Sanders, Juan Gaston and others working toward decisions after a busy June of official visitors,
The Vols are also still in the mix for guard Jacobe Ward.
