Impact Analysis: Tyran Evans
Tennessee picked up their second wide receiver commit of the 2026 class as Charlotte wideout Tyran Evans committed Sunday evening. Volquest breaks it down with the impact analysis of the pledge.
The Scout
The Hough product is a big and physical wide receiver who presents a matchup problem for opposing defenses.
“Tyran stretches the field and high points the ball,” Hough head coach DeShawn Baker said. “I think he fits that Tennessee receiver mold that’s tall and can stretch the field. I think the best attribute that doesn’t get talked about is his blocking. He is the best blocker we have on the outside and it’s not even close.
“Honestly I knew he had it in him. I knew he knew that he had some things he needed to work on but he took the coaching and kept his head down. He took all the criticism from myself and some of the other coaches. He worked hard and got it done. He showcase his talents to everybody. He runs like a deer and has a long wingspan. It doesn’t surprise me he blew up so quick. He goes against Samari Matthews every day in practice when you do 1-on-1s and scout team or best on best. He only wants to go against Samari. I think that has pushed him and driven him to what he is now.”

Evans chose to play for Josh Heupel and his staff over offers from Florida State, Florida, NC State, South Carolina and Miami among others.
What does this mean for the wide receiver room?
Evans joins 4-star Tyreek King in the class that already features 5-star quarterback Faizon Brandon. Tennessee is also a major player for Mississippi wide receiver Tristen Keys, who has eyes on committing in the next month or so. Tennessee added three wideouts in the 2025 class and look poised to do so again with the 2026 class and Josh Heupel and company look to change up that wide receiver room.
Evans had a monster junior season turning 36 receptions into 980 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging over 27 yards per catch.
