Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Oakland High School standout running back Daune Morris has made it official and signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the home-state Tennessee Volunteers.

Morris recently flipped his commitment away from USC and Lincoln Riley’s program to Tennessee. The move came after a consistently strong push from Josh Heupel’s program down the home stretch of this recruitment.

“Not only just this weekend but when I came to the Kentucky home game and they had the blackout, it blew me away,” Morris told Volquest in November prior to publicly revealing his decision. “When fans recognize your face and everyone in the stadium is so behind their own state players. It’s a different feeling and a different experience when you can come to a home game in your own home state and everyone know your face. It’s different and it can take me a long way.”

Morris was committed to the Trojans since April, but his usage in Tennessee’s offense played a key role in his decision to choose the Vols in the end.

“A very versatile back,” Morris said. “Can go in the slot and it’s kind of a two way street with me. I can go to the slot and catch balls in the open field. Extended bursts after the play. That’s my way of saying a versatile back.”

The Scout on Morris

“Well, first off, he is a hard worker and loves football,” Oakland High School Head Coach Kevin Creasy told Volquest. “He loves practicing football. He loves competition and because of that, he’s really good at running back, but he’s also a good receiver. Then the things he does when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands make him really special. He’s one of the most physical guys on our team, and he has even been known to jump in and play some defense and special teams for us. He is one of those guys that is real patient but when he finds an opportunity, he bursts through and makes a play. He will turn a negative yardage play into a positive play, but a lot of times he will turn a five yard gain into a fifty yard gain.”
