Indiana transfer Marcus Burris details Tennessee visit

Indiana transfer Marcus Burris Jr. was in Knoxville on Saturday to meet with the Tennessee staff. As he left campus, he caught up with Volquest to detail his trip.
“It kind of shocked me a little bit,” Burris said. “You think it’s an old country, similar to Texarkana, but it’s not. Man it’s different here, nice people, nice facilities, so I had a really good time.”
All the campus upgrades stood out to him.
“Definitely all the renovations they are doing,” Burris said. “You know now a days everyone is trying to have the top facilities and this was by far one of the best facilities I’ve ever seen and I’ve been doing college ball for a little minute.”
He was able to spend time with the staff and see where he might fit into things at Tennessee.
“They told me it would be rotational thing,” Burris said. “They don’t have a defined starter yet, which is something I could always come in and work for. So it’s nothing set in stone yet. I didn’t make no promises. I just know it’s definitely an opportunity here. That was my biggest thing going into the portal of looking for an opportunity.”
Veteran defensive line coach Rodney Garner had a long talk with him and he could see himself playing for the man known as Coach G.

“Coach G first of all is one of the best defensive line coaches there is out there,” Burris said. “His resume speaks for itself, I know they are looking forward to adding another defensive tackle to their rotation and I know what kind of rotating they do here and it’s gonna take more than two guys for sure. I know they already got some guys here, so don’t know, man, hopefully I might end up being the next guy and being able to contribute to this team.”
He has played the last two seasons at Indiana Burris had 34 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. Burris started his college career at Texas A&M and he believes he can bring experience and solid play to the Vols.
“I feel like I can be a very versatile piece to any defense,” Burris said. “Like I can be that guy who can play on the inside or the outside, at D-End or tackle, and you know, this is my last rodeo, so it’s time to give everything I got, and really leave it all out on the field.”
Burris is going to visit Memphis next as that’s his only other visit currently set up.
Grand Valley State defensive lineman Josh Schell will arrive on Saturday night and leave on Sunday. Schell is a 6-4, 270 pound defensive lineman who had 35 tackles, 3 for loss and 2 sacks last season.
