Everything former Tennessee football running back Jaylen Wright said during his press conference on Saturday, after being picked in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Miami Dolpins:

If he talked with Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel during the draft process

“Yes, I did. I had a 30 visit with Miami. I met the whole staff. It was cool. It was a team I really wanted to go to, which is crazy. It’s the best visit I had. I’m just glad you know what I’m saying, just to have the opportunity to come out to South Beach, just help make a difference in the team, help add to that explosive element.”

Bringing more explosiveness to a Miami offense that already has home-run hitters at the skill positions

“Just adding another explosive asset to the offense. That just makes the offense way better than it already is. It’s going to be really scary. I got a lot of fire built up in me right now, just from this whole process. I’m just ready to get out there and just prove my point. These people that passed on me, make them feel (it). So just ready to bring that aggression to the field, make a lot of plays, make a lot of big plays.”

His comfort catching passes out of the backfield in the Dolphins offense

“I’m comfortable for sure. We didn’t do a lot of route running and catching the ball at Tennessee, but I’m definitely comfortable. I’m an athlete. I know I’ve made big plays whether it’s the passing game or running game. I’m just ready to be rolling.”

What he knows about Dolphins running back De’Von Achane, who Miami drafted a year ago in the third round

“I’ve never met him, but I know of him. Watched his tape in college when he was a Texas A&M. He’s a great running back. He’s fast, he’s really elusive. He’s a good guy to learn from, somebody that’s been here. He has a year over me in the league, he’s somebody to learn from, somebody to take a lot of advice from. So I’m just ready to meet (him).”

The fastest 40 time he ran during the draft process before running a 4.38 at the NFL Scouting Combine

“I ran like 4.37. Either 4.37 or 4.36 when I was doing combine prep. I know I could have ran faster at Indy, but I’m just glad to be in the 4.3s regardless.”

If he’s used GPS tracking and what his fastest speed has been

“Yes, I ran like 23.7 miles per hour.”

Using a ‘cheetah mentality’ in a personalized logo with his NIL deals

“That’s just something that me and my dad came up with a long, long time ago. It’s just, I’ve always been fast. He just started calling me Cheetah. I’m already know there’s already a ‘Cheetah’ (Tyreek Hill) on a Dolphins, so, I mean, I’m gonna let him have that Cheetah. That’s his thing. But yes, something my dad always said to me, because I’m fast. But cheetah mentality is always going to be a thing.

The complexity of the Dolphins run game and how prepared he feels for it

“All my time in Knoxville, especially my sophomore year, junior year, we had receivers to space out the field. That’s just something that the Dolphins do really good, just space out the field, get defenses to get out of cover one, cover three, get defenses to play cover two and cover four. It’s just something that creates bigger opportunities for the running backs, bigger explosive plays. That’s a lot. That’s what I really had a lot of, that happened in Tennessee, and I feel like that’s going to be good in Miami.”

If he prefers to try to run around defenders or to try to run over them

“It could be either or. I don’t feel like I have any limitations to my game. I feel like I could do anything. So if it’s going around somebody, I’m going get around. If it’s going through, I’m going get through them too.”

If he takes pride in pass protection, with it being a strength of his game

“Yeah, of course I take pride in (protecting) the quarterback. You got to protect the quarterback. The guy’s making multiple millions of dollars. It’s somebody that has got to be protected. I take pride in pass protection. I feel like pass protection is like a mentality thing. You’re willing to step up and stone blockers, keep people from getting to your quarterback. I just feel like that if you have that mentality to stop them, it’s going to happen. So, pass protection, some mentality and some mindset. And I had that this past year. I’m going to keep having it and people I’m willing to see, there are a lot of great linebackers in this league. There are a lot of great DBs. I just want to be able to pancake somebody, to come to the line, I just want to have a big play while blocking. So I can make that statement that I’m willing to protect my quarterback.”

What Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said about his game during his visit in Miami

“He just likes my skillset … feels like I’m an explosive player and I can make big (plays) in the offense. And I agree, so I’m just ready to get going.”
