Levi Clark named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

Tennessee baseball’s Levi Clark has been named the co-Freshman of the Week by the Southeastern Conference Monday afternoon. He splits the weekly honor with Vanderbilt’s Brodie Johnson.
Over five games, the designated hitter logged eight hits in games against Radford, Xavier and St. Bonaventure. Clark totaled three hits apiece in the two midweek games and drove in a combined six runs on the week.
The rookie currently ranks fourth in the country with a .513 batting average and leads the Volunteers in OPS (1.713) and OBP (.363) – among those who qualify – and is second on the team in slugging percentage (1.077).
Clark thus far has six home runs, a team-high 23 runs batted in and has scored 14 runs. He’s spent that last two weekends hitting fifth in the order, right behind Andrew Fischer and in front of Reese Chapman.
The other weekly honor Tennessee racked up on Monday was Liam Doyle’s SEC Pitcher of the Week accolade. The lefty was brilliant against the Bonnies, tossing the first 5.2 innings of clean baseball with 13 punchouts – one shy of a career-best. He allowed two base runners (both walks) that bookended his start. Doyle threw a season-high 104 pitches in the contest.

Doyle leads the country with 47 strikeouts and has allowed one run off six hits in 20.1 innings pitched in four starts. He’s struck out 69 percent of the hitters he’s faced this season and secured 77 percent of his outs via the strikeout.
Second baseman Gavin Kilen picked up SEC Player of the Week honors following a five-homer week, including four in Houston at the Astros foundation College Classic last week.
The Vols (16-0) are off to the best start in program history by winning their first 16 games of the year. Tennessee won three of the five games this past week in run-rule fashion, but all five games were won by 10+ runs for the Volunteers.
Up Next: Tennessee returns to the field on Tuesday for midweek action against West Georgia from Lindsey Nelson Stadium and then it’s showtime as Southeastern Conference play begins with Florida at Tennessee this weekend.
