Liam Doyle threw the first six innings of Tennessee’s seven-inning, run-rule no-hitter Friday night in the 10-0 win over Texas A&M. On Monday, the junior lefty was honored by being named the Co-Pitcher of the Week by the Southeastern Conference for his elite performance.

It’s the second such award of the season for Doyle, who also earned the honor from the conference following his part in Tennessee’s other combined no-hitter against St. Bonaventure on March 7.

Friday’s no-hitter was the 10th in program history and the fifth in combined fashion. It was the second of the season and the first in Southeastern Conference play since Vanderbilt combined for a no-no over Kentucky in 2022.

The last time Tennessee threw multiple no-hitters in a single season was 1976.

“Yeah, still wasn’t necessarily perfect tonight but pretty good blocking it out and just going inning by inning and locking in and getting the next guy out,” Doyle said after Friday’s masterclass. “Throwing the next pitch, trying to wipe everything that just happened away and throw the next pitch.”

The southpaw recoded six, no-hit innings against the Aggies with eight strikeouts to just two walks. He also plunked a pair of batters, thus allowing four base runners in the start that spanned 96 total pitches with 58 strikes.

A blister popped up in the sixth inning and Doyle was giving it some attention in-between pitches. The hurler says it will be nothing that keeps him from making his next start on Friday in Oxford, where he spent last season with Ole Miss.

“It’s fine,” Doyle assured. “Just like a little nagging injury. Nothing to worry about. Be ready for next week.”

The Friday night ace of the Tennessee staff is 5-1 on the season with an impressive 2.53 ERA over 42.2 innings pitched. He leads the nation with 81 strikeouts and has walked only 14 on the year with opponents hitting .162 against him.

LSU’s Kade Anderson shares the honor with Doyle this week after tossing a nine-inning shutout where he allowed five hits with 14 strikeouts and two walks on 135 total pitches.
