Linebacker TJ White was in Knoxville for the first time this past weekend. He visited with Volquest after the visit to discuss what he found in Knoxville.

“I learned a lot about the facility and the new renovations they are doing,” White said. “Over 50 million in renovations and it’s looking good, it’s coming in. They talked me through what they do and how they work. Just how the education goes and how the team has a good 3.18 GPA. I liked that. Have to keep a good education up.”

With it being his first time here, he had no expectations.

“I didn’t know what to expect but it was great,” White said. “I’m glad I came.”

He was able to spend a good amount of time with linebackers coach William Inge, who showed him how they work on Rocky Top.

“Coach Inge put me on a little sauce with how they operate in the 4-2-5 defense,” White said. “It was good and I learned a lot.”

Inge has been talking to White a good amount. He has made him feel very important through the process, which is why he wanted to give Tennessee a look.

“He is very spirited,” White said. “He is fun to be around and he is going to be real with you. I like him.”

And the pitch is pretty simple from an on the field standpoint.

“They want to use me at the middle linebacker spot,” White said. “I can come off the edge but when they put me at middle linebacker I can do everything. That’s what we been talking about so far.”

Tennessee is in his ‘top schools’ according to White and they are there because they have been persistent and consistent in their pitch.

“They communicate a lot,” White said. “That’s what I really like. They communicate with my family and me almost every day. That’s why I had to get up here and they are a very good program with a very good defense.”

There is one safe bet in his recruitment and that is the fact that White will be back to Tennessee again.

“I don’t know when I will be back but I’m definitely going to visit again,” White said.
