How it Happened: Cannon Peebles delivers as Tennessee sweeps Florida with 7-4 Sunday win
Cannon Peebles didn’t start the game for Tennessee but he registered the biggest hit of the day with a two-run double in the sixth that paved the way for the 7-4 win in the series-finale over Florida on Sunday afternoon from Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The No. 2 Vols (20-0, 3-0 SEC) finished off the sweep over the No. 7 Gators (16-5, 0-3 SEC) in the first weekend of conference action. Gavin Kilen and Reese Chapman homered in the win. Peebles’ two-run double put the Vols back in front at 5-4 in the sixth inning.
Dylan Loy (W, 3-0) earned the win on the mound after tossing three innings of scoreless baseball while allowing just one hit and striking out five. Billy Barlow (L, 1-1) is the loser on the day after allowing three runs off two hits in 2.2 innings of work. Nate Snead (S, 3) earned the save after entering the ballgame with a one-run lead in the eighth and finishing things off in the ninth.
Up Next: Tennessee returns to action in the midweek on Tuesday by hosting ETSU at 5 p.m. ET. The Vols this hit the road next weekend for a series in Tuscaloosa against Alabama.
