How it Happened: Thomas Crabtree’s relief outing highlights 4-2 win over West Georgia

Led by Thomas Crabtree, Tennessee’s pitching was impressive on Tuesday during the Vols’ 4-2 win over West Georgia in the final tune-up ahead of Friday’s Southeastern Conference lid-lifter with Florida.

Andrew Fischer homered and drove in another on a sacrifice fly. Freshman Chris Newstrom also drove in a run for Tennessee. The Vols deployed nine pitchers on the night.

Thomas Crabtree (W, 1-0) earned his first win with the Vols after 3.1 innings of relief where he retired the first 10 batters he faced. The outing witnesses three strikeouts, one hit, three strikeouts and no walks over 34 pitches with 24 strikes. Ryan Combs (S, 1) earned his first save of the season, protecting the two-run lead in the ninth as he collected the final two outs of the game.

Evimael Quiles (L, 0-1) is charged with the loss after surrendering two runs off one hit (Andrew Fischer 2-run home run) and three walks in 1.2 innings of work.

Up Next: Tennessee welcomes Florida to Lindsey Nelson Stadium this weekend to begin the first of 10 Southeastern Conference series in 2025. Friday’s first pitch will be at 6:30 pm ET and will be streamed on the SEC Network+.
