How it Happened: Seven-run third carries Vols to series-sweeping 13-2 win over Bonnies

Tennessee opened things up with a seven-run third inning to cruise 13-2 in a run-rule victory in seven innings over St. Bonaventure, capping the weekend sweep from Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Stone Lawless belted a two-run walk off homer in the bottom of the seventh to win it for the Vols.  

The Vols (16-0) set a program-record for the best start in team history with the win, moving past the 2019 squad’s 15-0 start. Levi Clark, Stone Lawless (2), Dalton Bargo and Chris Newstrom all homered in the win while Jay Abernathy collected two hits.

Freshman Tegan Kuhns (W, 2-0) earned the victory on the mound after being the pitcher in the ballgame when the Vols took the lead in the third inning. The rookie allowed one run off two hits in 1.1 innings of work, totaling 26 pitches in the outing.   

David James (L, 0-1) took home the loss after allowing six of the seven third inning runs to cross home plate after allowing six hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Up Next: Tennessee welcomes West Georgia for Tuesday midweek action in what will be the final tune-up prior to SEC play. First pitch is slated for 4:30 PM ET.
