How it Happened: Good pitching, timely hitting too much for Xavier in 13-1 Volunteer win
Tennessee drove in seven runs in the sixth inning to hammer Xavier 13-1 Wednesday night from Lindsey Nelson Stadium in the second midweek contest in as many days.
The Vols (13-0) fell behind 1-0 in the second but Andrew Fischer’s two-run homer in the fourth inning gave the home team the lead for good. Levi Clark and Gavin Kilen tallied three-hit days while Reese Chapman’s sixth inning home run extended his season-opening hit-streak to 13 games.
Xavier’s (7-6) lone highlight of the contest was a solo home run by Isaac Wachsmann in the second inning.
Austin Breedlove (1-0) earned the victory on the mound for the Vols after three scoreless innings of relief. Logan Schmidt (0-1) is charged with the loss after allowing two runs off three hits in 3.2 innings of the start.
Up Next: Tennessee continues its homestand by welcoming St. Bonaventure to Lindsey Nelson Stadium this week for the final nonconference weekend series of the regular season.
