How it Happened: Tennessee rallies but drops 7-6 extra inning affair to ETSU

Tennessee rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning but ultimately fell in 10 innings to ETSU, 7-6 in midweek action Tuesday night from Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tennessee (20-1) needed seventh and eighth inning rallies to take the lead, but it was the Bucs (16-4) who was the final team standing. Hunter Ensley tied the game with an RBI double in the seventh before doubling in two more in the eighth to put the Vols ahead 6-4. Ryan Combs allowed a two-run homer in the ninth to tie the game once more before Tanner Franklin surrendered a tenth inning solo home run that handed ETSU its final lead at 7-6.

Tanner Franklin (1-1) is charged with the loss after allowing a solo home run to leave the yard in the top of the tenth inning. Andrew Cotten (1-0) is awarded the win while preserving the 7-6 lead in the bottom of the frame.   

Up Next: Tennessee hits the road for the first time in Southeastern Conference play as the Vols take on Alabama in Tuscaloosa beginning on Thursday at 7:30 pm ET.
