Liam Doyle was nothing short of elite on Friday night in Tennessee’s 12-0 series-opening win over St. Bonaventure from Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Vols’ pitching staff teamed up for the fourth combined no-hitter (ninth total) in program history in the victory.

The ace allowed a leadoff walk before retiring 17-straight on into the sixth inning while not allowing a hit over the scoreless start. He tapped out one strikeout shy (13) of a career-best and totaled 104 pitches with 72 strikes. Doyle (W, 3-0) was simply incredible as the national strikeout leader is now up to 47 in the season.

Tanner Franklin, Brandon Arvidson, Brayden May and Michael Sharman joined Doyle in the combined no-hitter for Tennessee.

His counterpart James Capellupe (L, 1-1) was charged with the loss after surrendering seven runs (six earned) off seven his in five innings of work.

The Vols (14-0) added five runs in the second inning  – off home runs from Cannon Peebles and Dalton Bargo – and five more runs in the sixth inning, thanks to home runs from Gavin Kilen and Andrew Fischer. The Bonnies (7-5) managed just no hits in the contest.

Reese Chapman extended his hit-streak to 14 games in the win while Levi Clark upped his hit-streak to nine games. In 14 games so far in 2025, Tennessee has scored 10 or more runs on 11 separate occasions.

Up Next: UT continues its series with the Bonnies on Saturday evening for Game 2 from Lindsey Nelson Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 o’clock ET.
