For the second time in as many weeks, the Tennessee baseball program boasts a Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week accolade. This time, it’s right-handed hurler Marcus Phillips.

The junior shares the honor with Alabama’s Bobby Alcock. Tennessee’s Liam Doyle picked up the honor last Monday, along with Levi Clark being named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. Two weeks ago, Gavin Kilen was named SEC Player of the Week. Phillips weekly honor from the conference is now the fourth of the season for Tennessee.

Phillips dominated Florida on Saturday en route to a 10-0 run-rule victory in seven innings. The righty tossed a complete game shutout on a career-high seven innings pitched where he allowed just five hits with seven strikeouts to one walk over 100 pitches with 76 strikes.

Through his first five starts of the season, Phillips has allowed only three earned runs on 15 hits across 26 innings with 32 strikeouts to seven walks. He’s been a catalyst for the staff that owns 1.72 ERA, which is one of the best in the country.

On Monday, Tennessee was appointed the consensus No. 1 ranked team in the country when D1 Baseball flipped the Vols and LSU in the top-two spots. UT swept previously seventh-ranked Florida at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this past weekend, combining to outscore the Gators 22-8 in three games.

Up Next: Tennessee returns to action in the midweek on Tuesday by hosting ETSU at 5 p.m. ET. The Vols this hit the road next weekend for a series in Tuscaloosa against Alabama.
