Mariyon Dye recaps another Tennessee trip
Tennessee commit Mariyon Dye was back on Rocky Top last weekend. After the visit, he visited with Volquest about his time back in Knoxville.
“I’ve been great, you know, we beat Bama so that’s always a plus,” Dye said. “The players showing me a lot of love and the coaches showing love too. Definitely had a great time out.”
As he sat there and watched Tennessee beat Alabama, he could totally envision being out there making plays in an orange uniform.
“Most definitely, me and Ethan (Utley) was talking about it yesterday, it’s really gonna be us in less than two months because we both graduated early, so, yeah, that’s gonna be crazy,” Dye said.
He loves the way the Tennessee defense played and how they get after the opponent in an aggressive manner.
“I watched the whole defense ball,” Dye said. “I’m definitely watching James Pearce and how he gets off the ball and try to start modeling my game after him for sure.”
Players like Pearce have obviously made an impact and the coaching staff has added to that.
“Really just the way that Coach G is moving them around up front,” Dye said. “The way they striking, striking out the ball, being explosive off the ball, are the big things for sure.”
Dye is a big and long defender who believes in hard work on and off the field.
“Just like, not even about football. It’s just a great young man, a hard worker for sure,” Dye said about what Tennessee is getting.”

And this trip as a commit was so much better because the recruiting process was behind him.
“It definitely makes it way more enjoyable,” Dye said with a smile. “Because usually I have a lot of meetings to go to and I can do really bond with the players and coaches and just enjoy myself.”
He got to spend a lot of time with the players, but it was more about bonding than anything else.
“I asked most of my questions, like during my OV and stuff,” Dye said “Now I’m just really just becoming like brothers with them and really getting to know them and stuff.”
He loves spending time with the Tennessee staff like head coach Josh Heupel and defensive coordinator Tim Banks.
“He is a coach you can really just bond with, like, I could be myself around him,” Dye said. “That’s really the biggest thing for me. I could be myself around him. Coach Banks is the same way.”
And then there is coach Chop (Levorn Harbin) and their tight knit bond.
“He been on me from the jump and he is like a father figure to me,” Dye said. “Not even like a coach no more for sure.”
