Tennessee’s do-everything pitcher Nate Snead reeled in yet another prestigious honor ahead of the 2025 campaign as the junior hurler was named a preseason first-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The hard-throwing righty burst onto the scene in Southeastern Conference play last season after transferring in from Wichita State. He was a USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Participant last summer after logging 75.1 innings, in a variety of roles, with a 10-2 record over 29 appearances and one start. The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder struck out 61, walked 26 and locked down six saves out of the bullpen in 2024.
The right-handed pitcher came in at No. 69 on MLB.com’s Top 100 Draft Prospects for 2025. Snead was named a preseason first-team All-SEC selection last week. He also picked up Preseason All-American honors from Baseball America (first-team) and Perfect Game (second-team) earlier this offseason. Perfect Game appointed Snead as the No. 38 junior in college baseball ahead of the new season.
We will see exactly what role Snead will play for the Vols this season. It’s very possible he begins the campaign in the starting rotation, or as a long-relief (piggy-back) option in the first month or so of the year. Snead did his best work for Tennessee last season in the back-end of the bullpen.

“Honestly, anything. Coach is going to put me in any position he sees best fits and I’m going to go out there and do my job,” Snead told the media last week when asked what his expectations were for the year. “There’s not much of a role that I didn’t face last year that I couldn’t overcome, so it is whatever coach V [Tony Vitello] wants.”
