“He was super pumped and excited for me,” the No.1 LB in the On3 Industry Rankings said at the time. “All of my family really were too because they are all huge Tennessee fans. He just told me that he doesn’t want to pressure me to go there because he went there or all of that or because we have raised you to love the Vols growing up. He just said he wanted me to make the decision that was best for me, and it was great advice he gave me, but he was super pumped up and happy for me.”
Witten has already received high praise from On3’s Charles Power as his recruiting process has started to take off.
“Cooper Witten is the son of Tennessee and Dallas Cowboys legend, Jason Witten. Like Gunner Rivers, Cooper Witten also plays for his father, who is coaching at Argyle (Texas) Liberty Christian Academy. The younger Witten is listed at around 6-foot-1, 205 pounds and primarily lined up at safety as a freshman flashing playmaking skills and physicality. He also shows plus athleticism in track and field, posting a strong 11.03 second mark in the 100 meters as a freshman. Witten is ranked at the athlete position, but given his size and skill set, it’s not out of the question he could ultimately grow into a linebacker.“
