Tennessee’s Chase Dollander named Perfect Game Preseason Pitcher of the Year
Tennessee hurler Chase Dollander has been named the preseason Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game USA, ahead of the 2023 campaign.
The honor should come as no surprise as the righty is one of the better MLB Draft prospects for this upcoming class and is an expected early pick. Standing in at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, the one-time Georgia Southern pitcher dazzled in his first season on Rocky Top, picking up SEC Pitcher of the year honors for this past spring.
Dollander also garnered five first-team All-American honors and one second-team All-American nod following a season with a 10-0 record in 16 appearances with a 2.39 ERA. The starter tossed 97 innings, surrendering just 21 earned runs with 108 strikeouts to only 13 walks.
Perfect Game synopsis of Dollander
Dollander was the SEC Pitcher of the Year in 2022, his first year in Knoxville, after going 10-0 with a 2.39 ERA in just 79 innings. It’s true swing-and-miss stuff and reports are that Dollander was routinely sitting 96-100 mph this fall. There’s five pitches here to miss bats with a put-away slider highlighting the arsenal. Dollander is likely the best pitching prospect to come out of the draft in a long time and is a true 1:1 candidate as well.
Three other Vols pick up preseason honors from Perfect Game
Fellow Vols starting pitcher Chase Burns picked up first-team All-American honors, along with Dollander on Thursday. After opening the season as Tennessee’s Friday night starter, the true freshman compiled an 8-2 record with a 2.91 ERA, including 103 strikeouts.
