Tennessee adds slugger Ryan Galanie from transfer portal
Tony Vitello and the Tennessee baseball staff continue to add to the roster, looking ahead to 2024. The latest addition comes via former Wofford infielder Ryan Galanie, sources confirm to Volquest.
The slugger came alive at the plate each of the past two seasons, combining for 34 home runs (17 HRs in both 2022, 2023) and 129 RBI. Galanie registered a .383 batting average this past season and hit .329 as a junior in 2022. There’s versatility to his game as well, starting all 59 contests at third base in 2022 while manning the first base bag in 2023.
Galanie cut down on his strikeouts greatly as a senior this past year, retiring only 39 times across 230 at-bats compared to 54 times over a 219 at-bat span in 2022. The utility player, who can also play outfield, was a freshman in 2020 – playing in only six games. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
The senior was a two-time Southern Conference Player of the Month in 2023 and won the Player of the Week honor as well on March 10. He’s currently playing for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Summer League.

With the MLB draft coming up, Galanie will be one to monitor because of his age.
Galanie becomes Tennessee’s fourth addition from the transfer portal this offseason, joining right-handed pitchers AJ Causey and Nate Snead, along with catcher Cannon Peebles. The window opened on May 30 and remains open for 45 days until July 13. So far, the Vols have lost seven players to the portal, a list that includes pitchers Chase Burns, Jake Fitzgibbons, Jacob Bimbi, Shawn Scott, Turner Swistak, Hollis Fanning and outfielder Alex Stanwhich.
Last offseason, Tennessee was active in the transfer portal by adding key components to the roster who would go on to compete in the College World Series. Those players included shortstop Maui Ahuna, third baseman Zane Denton, outfielder Griffin Merritt and pitcher Andrew Lindsey.
