Seniors Omari Thomas and Jacob Warren reflect on careers ahead of Vanderbilt
Tennessee defensive tackle Omari Thomas is preparing for Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt and a run through the “T” that could be his last. Thomas, like 19 others, on this team has a decision to make after this weeks game.
Thomas could head off to the NFL draft or hie could use his COVID year to return. For Thomas, he’s just trying to stay in the moment this week and finish off the regular season the right way with a home win over Vanderbilt.
“Hopefully they can see me as a person they can look at who always gave his best and who always wanted what was best for Tennessee – not necessary for himself,” Thomas answered when asked how he wants fans to remember him if this is his last ride. “I’m [wanting people to see] I put the team before me. I’m big into friendships and relationships. I’ve been able to do that here, so that’s something that can continue whether I’m here or not.”
While Thomas and some of his teammates have a decision to make, Jacob Warren doesn’t. The sixth year senior made the decision Thomas is trying to make a year ago when he chose to use his COVID year and return this season. For Warren its a decision that he doesn’t regret. Saturday will be his final run through the T, ending a career full of plenty of challenges with coaching changes and injuries. But it’s a career he’s proud to call his.

“I don’t think I’ll be too emotional, honestly,” the tight end admitted. “I think I’ll be able to contain it for a good amount, but it is worth it to show that it makes me emotional that I truly do value the experience. So, I’ll definitely be emotional for sure but we will see how much it comes out.”
Thomas, Warren and the rest of their Tennessee teammates will take on Vanderbilt Saturday at 3:30 pm eastern time on the SEC Network.
