Seven Tennessee pitchers enter transfer portal on Monday

As the race down to 34 roster spots following the passing of the house settlement continues, Tennessee baseball lost seven more pitchers to the NCAA transfer portal on Monday afternoon.
Left-handed pitchers Michael Sharman, Dane Bjorn, Brayden May and Luke Payne – as well as righties Tanner Wiggins, Andrew DuMont and Stratton Scott – entered the portal. The group combined to pitch only one-third of an inning of Southeastern Conference play this season.

The most notable of the bunch was Sharman, who appeared in 17 games with three starts, tossing to a 3.18 ERA and a 3-1 record over 22.2 innings. He took over the midweek starter role for the Vols and appeared in just three SEC games this season, collecting one out.
Wiggins was a fellow junior college prospect who joined the Vols last summer. He appeared in only four games and was sidelined the back-half of SEC play when he was struck by a foul ball in the Tennessee dugout during the Kentucky series. Wiggins allowed just one hit across 2.1 innings with no runs allowed.
May’s one career-appearance was a part of a Tennessee combined no-hitter against St. Bonaventure on March 7. Payne pitched in five games this season and tallied 3.2 innings in the process. DuMont, Bjorn and Scott did not appear in a game this season for Tennessee.
The Vols have now lost 19 players to the transfer portal, including 16 pitchers. Of the 16 pitchers, however, 15 of them combined to throw only 7.1 innings of SEC play. The other was Dylan Loy, who led the league with 33 appearances on the season.

Baseball Transfer Portal
The 2025 non-graduate transfer portal opened on June 2 and will remain open until July 1. Players must have their name entered in the transfer portal by July 1 if they want to move on, but new destinations do not have to be made by that time.
The Vols have benefited greatly from the transfer portal in recent cycles, reeling in the likes of Chase Dollander (2022), Griffin Merritt (2023), Maui Ahuna (2023), Zane Denton (2023), Billy Amick (2024), Cannon Peebles (2024), AJ Causey (2024), Chris Stamos (2024), Liam Doyle (2025), Andrew Fischer (2025) and Gavin Kilen (2025).
Tennessee has added seven players from the transfer portal, a list that includes right-handed pitchers Clay Edmondson (UNC Asheville), Mason Estrada (MIT), Bo Rhudy (Kennesaw State), RHP Brady Frederick (ETSU), utility Garrett Wright (Bowling Green), RHP/OF DJ Newman and 1B/OF Henry Ford. Tennessee has also added junior college players such as RHP Matt Barr (SUNY Niagara) and Tyler Myatt (Walters State) and picked up catcher Trent Grindlinger as a late add to the 2025 class in recent weeks.
Tennessee has now lost 19 players to the transfer portal so far: INF Jack Jones, INF Robinson Martin, LHP Bryson Thacker, RHP Brayden Sharp, RHP Austin Hunley, RHP Thomas Crabtree, OF Colby Backus, LHP Ryler Smart, LHP Dylan Loy, LHP Andrew Behnke, RHP Austin Breedlove, RHP/OF Beau Revord, LHP Michael Sharman, LHP Dane Bjorn, LHP Brayden May, LHP Luke Payne, RHP Stratton Scott, RHP Tanner Wiggins and RHP Andrew DuMont.
