North Carolina defensive lineman Keshawn Stancil was in Knoxville on Saturday to check out Tennessee. It was a visit that had him praising the Vols as he left town.

“Just being able to get out here and tour the campus and learn about the academics,” Stancil said about what stood out, “Just see the ins and outs and hang out with coach Heupel was good.”

He was able to spend a lot of time with head coach, Josh Heupel and defensive line coach Rodney Garner. That included some important conversations about how he would fit into the culture at Tennessee.

“Their defense really matches my play style a lot,” Stancil said. “More than I expected and I really feel like I could fit in here.”

Stancil hadn’t been to Knoxville since he watched the Vols beat Alabama back in October. The staff has been recruiting him hard and communicating often which pushed him to want to come back.

“I just came back to see coach Heup and coach G,” Stancil said. “Coach G came to see me during the week last week. Just coming back to see all my people is real good,”

He was all smiles when talking about Garner and how he presents a path to play at Tennessee. He really likes their relationship.

“It’s really good,” Stancil said. “We talk almost every other day on the phone. Just being able to come back and connect with him physically and see him physically is great to do so. He keeps it real. He is big on development. He has a lot of knowledge in the game. He is like in year 36 or 35 deep in the game so just being able to be with a coach that is that deep in the game is good.”

Tennessee has had a lot of success with North Carolina players over the years and Stancil could be the next.

“You aren’t going to get no better D-lineman than North Carolina,” Stancil said. “You come to North Carolina and get D-Lineman and so you might have something at Tennessee. You never know.”

As of now, the thing that stands out, the most is his relationship with the staff, which is why he talks so much about it when leaving on Saturday.

“Just my connection with coach Heup and coach G,” Stancil said. “Just my relationship with my position coaches and the head coach. If you don’t think coach G can develop you then I don’t know what you are thinking.”

He has visits to Miami and North Carolina State coming up. He continues to hear from several different schools with Tennessee being deep in the mix.
