TE Cole Harrison details commitment to Tennessee

Tennessee hosted 2024 San Mateo (Calif.) Junipero Serra tight end Cole Harrison for his official visit last weekend and following the trip, Harrison returned home to make his decision. Monday night he called tight ends coach Alec Abeln to give him the good news that he was committing to Tennessee.
“He was fired up,” Harrison said. “He was super fired up and happy. He always says that the people that are in his room are in his room for a reason. I think there is a strong reason for that. I’m super excited.”
And that relationship with Abeln was the key cog in his decision.
“Seeing how he develops the tight ends and the great year,” Harrison said. “They are going to have many more great years to come. Just feel like it’s the place to be.”
Tennessee doesn’t have a lot of depth at the position and that was apparent to Harrison, who sees opportunity at Tennessee.
“Having the opportunity to play early if that comes, then we will take,” Harrison said. “Being able to develop and be the best tight end I can be. Working on my route running and my blocking. Just have that come forward is going to be exciting to see and I’m looking forward to it.”

So what are his strengths and where does he have to continue to improve?
“My strengths are my receiving and being able to work in space,” Harrison said. “That is something I always thought I had and able to display. Something I really need to work on is my blocking. I was able to showcase that in high school but definitely need to take that to the next level as I get bigger.”
During his official visit, he was able to see Tennessee practice and gave him a visualization of what football will be like in Knoxville.
“Seeing the practice really helped a lot,” he said. “Just seeing how SEC practices were organized and seeing how Coach Abeln in their meeting breaks down film and analyzes how to improve the tight ends. He is a great coach. It was awesome.
“Being able to see coach Abe and how he coaches and how the tight ends are utilized. His coaching style I just thought fit me and I really saw myself there being coached by him. The relationship started off in September and it’s going to last.”
