JUCO lefty Brandon Arvidson commits to Tennessee
Tennessee baseball has secured its second commitment from a Junior College pitcher in the past month as lefty Brandon Arvidson has pledged his allegiance to the Big Orange following an official visit last weekend.
“With it being my third recruiting process, it became pretty easy to me on what my priorities are and what I look for in a program,” Arvidson told Volquest. “This coaching staff and program was everything I was looking for. Amazing people and a competitive and talented program.
“The coaching staff were real people and didn’t try to sell me anything or just tell me how good I am. They were extremely genuine and straightforward and it became the best fit for me and my family.”
It’s been a long and winding road for the southpaw, as his journey to Knoxville took a trio of pitstops along the way. Working in reverse order, the 6-foot-5, 205-poud hurler recently signed with Texas to continue his athletics journey, but was granted release from his National Letter of Intent following the coaching change from David Pierce to Jim Schlossnagle in Austin.
This past spring for the 2024 campaign, Arvidson pitched for San Jacinto in the junior college realm. Last season in 2023, the lefty redshirted at Texas A&M. He also pitched for the Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League in the summer of 2023, making eight appearances with one start over 12.2 innings.

Arvidson was one of the best junior college players in 2024, racking up 108 strikeouts over 61 innings pitched. He contributed a 4-3 record across 17 appearances with nine starts and also logged one save along the way. The southpaw owned a 3.84 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.

Arvidson joins Thomas Crabtree as recent JUCO commits for Tennessee this summer. There’s now six known JUCO pitchers who are committed to Tennessee in this cycle as Tanner Wiggins (Weatherford), Ryan Combs (Polk State), Austin Breedlove (Cleveland State), Michael Sharman (Georgia Highlands), Crabtree and Arvidson comprise the list.
Separate, but noteworthy in terms of roster management, is the transfer portal cycle. The transfer portal opened June 3 and remained open through July 2. Eight players entered the transfer portal from Tennessee, a list that includes Camden Bates, Derek Schaefer, Robin Villeneuve, Bradke Lohry, Matthew Dallas, Wyatt Evans, Danie Parris and 2023 third baseman Zane Denton.
Gavin Kilen, Tanner Franklin, Eric Rataczak, Andrew Fischer and Liam Doyle are the five current commits for Tennessee out of the transfer portal thus far.
