Look: National championship odds for Tennessee Vols, Lady Vols basketball

Tennessee Basketball’s odds to win a national championship have gotten longer since the start of SEC play. The Vols have dropped from 12/1 odds on January 2 to 18/1 in odds updated on Monday by BetOnline.
Only five teams have lower odds than Tennessee. Auburn is the favorite at 3/1, down from 6/2 on January 2. Duke is 4/1, down from 15/2, and Alabama, Florida and Houston are all at 9/1. Florida was 20/1 last month, Alabama was 15/1 and Houston was 12/1.
The Vols started SEC play on January 4 with a No. 1 ranking and a perfect 13-0 start to the season that they extended with a 76-52 win over Arkansas at Food City Center.
No. 6 Tennessee (21-5, 8-5 SEC) is 7-5 over 12 games since then, losing at Florida, Vanderbilt and Auburn in January and dropping two games against Kentucky, at home on January 28 and at Rupp Arena last week.
Tennessee currently projected as top No. 2 seed in NCAA Tournament
The Vols on Saturday, before the 81-76 win over Vanderbilt in Knoxville, were a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament when the Selection Committee released its current top-16 seeds in an in-season bracket preview. Tennessee was the No. 5 overall seed, the first team behind the four No. 1 seeds: Auburn, Alabama, Duke and Florida.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi also has Tennessee as his current top No. 2 seed. Lunardi’s Bracketology update on Tuesday had the Vols as the No. 2 in the East Region — Duke was the No. 1 seed in the East — facing No. 15 Central Connecticut in the first round, opposite of No. 7 Louisville and No. 10 West Virginia.
Tennessee is currently No. 5 in both the NET and No. 5 in the KenPom.com ratings. The Vols are 8-5 in Quad 1 games and a combined 13-0 in Quad 2, 3 and 4 games. They’re ranked No. 1 in KenPom’s adjusted defensive efficiency, giving up 87.4 points per 100 possessions, and No. 30 in adjusted offensive efficiency, scoring 118.5 points per 100 possessions.
