Tennessee CB Rickey Gibson gives back during football break

Most Tennessee athletes are home or they are heading home this week for a few days of R and R before returning to campus the end of the month to start the summer off-season work.
Tennessee starting defensive back Rickey Gibson is one of those athletes who is back home and on Wednesday the Alabama native stopped by his old high school for a visit.
Gibson spent time at his alma mater Hewitt-Trussville High School to words of encouragement and advice to the football team who is finishing up spring practice. Gibson also brought a gift as he donated $5,000 dollars to the football program.
Gibson signed with Tennessee out of Hewitt-Trussville as a part of the class of 2023. Gibson was rated as a four star and the No. 17 cornerback in the country.

As a freshman in 2024, Gibson played in all 13 games with most of his snaps coming on special teams. Gibson finished the year with 9 tackles including one for loss and a pass break up.
As a sophomore in 2025, Gibson took a big step as he locked down the corner spot opposite Jermod McCoy. After missing the season opener due to a fall camp injury, Gibson started the last 12 games recording 32 tackles including 2 for loss. He also had 5 PBU’s and a forced fumble.
Gibson toyed with the transfer portal ahead of spring practice, but never missed any winter workouts or spring drills. When the portal opened Gibson didn’t flirt with leaving as he looks to take another step in his third year on Rocky Top.
