Tennessee climbs inside the top 5 in both polls
For the first time since 1998, the Tennessee football team is 6-0. In the latest USA Today Coaches poll the Vols are ranked 4th. In the latest Associated Press poll, the Vols have climbed to third.
That’s Tennessee’s highest ranking since the pre-season ranking of 3 in the Associated Press poll to start the 2005 season. The last time the Vols were inside the top 5 in season was in 2001 after the Vols beat Florida to end the regular season.
The 2022 Vols are the only team in college football to beat four ranked opponents this season. The latest was Saturday’s 52-49 thriller against Alabama where the Vols ended a 15 game losing streak.
Josh Heupel’s offense has now scored 30 points in 9 straight games and Hendon Hooker is putting up Heisman numbers. The senior was 21 of 30 for 385 yards and 5 touchdowns against the Tide.
