Fast Break: No. 6 Tennessee erupts in second half, cruises to win over Georgia
After scoring just 25 points in the first half, Rick Barnes’ 6th ranked Tennessee squad erupted for 49 in the second half in a 74-56 win over Georgia.
Senior point guard Zakai Zeigler was the second half catalyst with 11 second half points on 4 of 7 shooting including 3-4 beyond the arc. Zeigler also had 5 assists and 4 steals in 13 minutes of the second half.
Jordan Gainey scored 14 in the field 20 minutes on 5 of 7 shooting and Jahmai Mashack added 9 going 4 of 4 from the floor.
As a team, the Vols shot 58% in the second half, which was a far cry from the ice cold 9 of 33 in the first half (27%).
The good news is that the Vols won without production from Chaz Lanier. The concern is that Lanier continues to struggle to get the ball through the net. Lanier finished with 5 points going just 2 of 16 from the field including 1 of 9 beyond the 3 point line.
