In 2026 and 2027, Tennessee will be playing a home and home with Georgia Tech as the  replacement opponent for the Nebraska series that was dropped by the Cornhuskers back in February.

Tennessee will play in Atlanta against the Yellowjackets in September 12, 2026 and Georgia Tech will make a trip to Neyland Stadium on September 11, 2027.

The location of the game in Atlanta is flexible as the game could be played at Bobby Dodd Stadium on the campus of Georgia Tech or it could be played in Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Tennessee athletic director Danny White said despite the late notice to cancel his goal was to try and find a home and home opponent and not do two more neutral site games.

“Our goal is to try and replace this with another home and home,” White told Volquest when the Nebraska series was cancelled. “I just don’t know if that’s possible. It’s going to be a really tall order. As it sits right now, there’s not a single opponent available to do that. We are calling around trying to see if people are open to trying to get out of another game to look at playing us. It’s a lot easier to find someone who can do a one off neutral site than someone who can do two consecutive years and find dates that match up. You typically need 6, 7, 8, 9 years in advance to try and find that kind of arrangement.”

Avoiding two more years of neutral site games was important for White as Tennessee has played in plenty of them. Tennessee moved a road game at BYU to Nashville to play Virginia in 2023. In 2024, Tennessee played NC State in Charlotte because the SEC office forced them to cancel a scheduled home game with Oklahoma because the Sooners were coming into the league.

Tennessee will open the 2025 season in Atlanta against Syracuse in a deal made by former Tennessee AD Phillip Fulmer. In 2028, Tennessee is scheduled to make a return trip to Charlotte for a neutral site game with West Virginia. Tennessee is scheduled to play a home and home series with Washington in 2029 and 2030.

Tennessee and Georgia Tech last played in 2017 in the first year of Mercedes Benz stadium with the Vols beating the Yellowjackets 42-41 in double overtime. The last time Georgia Tech played in Knoxville was in 1987 which was a 29-15 Vol win.
