2-Minute Drill: Vols continue practice for Citrus Bowl, Iowa
Tennessee football was back out on the practice field once again Tuesday morning as the Citrus Bowl against Iowa is now less than two weeks away.
Following the workout, defensive lineman Omari Thomas, center Cooper Mays and wideout Ramel Keyton spoke to members of the local media. Both Thomas and Mays, who originally announced their intentions of returning for a fifth season, spoke on what went into that decision making process.
“Just the feeling of I could be more productive. Like my play, do I feel like I could be better,” Thomas asked himself throughout the decision-making process? “Do I feel like it’s still room for me to grow?. So, I feel like just coming back to college gives me the best opportunity to grow as a player and get the most out of it. What I feel like I can be as a player.”

For Mays, the opportunity to play a full season healthy was appealing as he missed much of the 2023 campaign.
“My story is probably a little bit different than most. I didn’t get to play for most of the beginning half of the season, so it kind of snuck up on me a little bit,” the offensive lineman explained. “I didn’t really even think about it very much until it kind of really got to the time where I had to make the decision. My situation is probably a little bit different than folks and I’m not really the type to get super stressed out about much anyway. I’m pretty where my feet are and pretty even keel. I didn’t have that much of a hard time. It’s where I wanted to be.
