Tennessee hiring former Oklahoma QB Landry Jones as offensive analyst
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel has found a his replacement for the offensive analyst vacated by McKenzie Milton’s departure to Scott Frost’s staff at Central Florida. Heupel is bringing in his former Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones.
Jones played for Heupel from 2008-2012 at Oklahoma throwing for 16,646 yards, 123 touchdowns and 52 interceptions.
Jones was in the NFL for seven seasons playing for the Steelers, the Jaguars and the Raiders. Jones’ pro career ended in 2020 after one season in the XFL.
Jones has not been in coaching. He’s been working in private industry and his analyst role at Tennessee will be his first taste in the coaching industry.
Jones also has a relationship with Tennessee offensive coordinator Joey Halzle as the two were in the same quarterback position room as players for Heupel in 2008 when Halzle was a senior and Jones arrived as a highly touted freshman.

Jones joins Halzle and Milton as the third former Heupel-coached quarterback to get their coaching start with the Tennessee head coach.
Halzle broke into the business as an offensive quality control coach at Oklahoma when his playing career was done and worked with Jones the rest of his playing career.
Milton who suffered a devastating knee injury at UCF, played his final year at Florida State before getting his first coaching opportunity under Heupel at Tennessee as an analyst.
