Fairburn, Georgia offensive lineman Dontrell Glover was back in Knoxville yesterday and spent time all over campus. It was a detailed look at Rocky Top that left him impressed.

“Everything was good,” he said. “Enjoyed the practice. It was very physical. O-line gave up a couple to the D-line, but it’s all good, though.

“It matched up very well (with my expectations). Stadium, expected what it’s supposed to be — one of the biggest stadiums in college football. Just the coaches overall, they call me every day. If they can’t call me every day, it’s almost every other day, just to check on me and everything.”

He got to spend plenty of time with offensive line coach Glen Elarbee. He saw him in the meeting room, on the practice field and in other settings. He got to hear how Elarbee envisions using him in the Vol offense.

“Coach Elarbee told me I’ve got the technique, but I need to match it up with my fast pace and how physical I play,” Glover said. “So he said, once I match it up, I’ll be the best player in the country.

“I don’t work center that much. But every time I get a ball in my hand, I do want to snap the ball, just so I can get used to it. So, in pregame, I go snap the ball with our other center. At practice, I snap the ball on inside run.”

So where does Tennessee stand coming out of the visit?

“Tennessee’s at number two,” Glover said. “They’ve still got to fight with Florida State. But they’re doing good, so they could probably pull it off.”

And Rocky Top has some nice advantages.

“I was telling Max Thurmond (Tennessee senior offensive analyst) today, it’s close to home. It’s always good being close to home. My parents could come and see me play. I see myself playing in the SEC.”

So while he may have FSU in front, the allure of playing in the SEC is definitely a sticking point in the thought process.

“To me, I just think the SEC will get you ready for the NFL,” Glover said. “As you see, most guys in the NFL were from the SEC.”
