Tennessee scheduled to host transfer running back Star Thomas
Tennessee is expected to host one transfer portal visitor at the end of the week. Running back Star Thomas is scheduled to make an official visit.
Thomas is a grad transfer who rushed for 871 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2024 for Duke. Thomas also had 153 yards on 20 receptions out of the backfield.
The 6-0, 210 pound Thomas played the 2022 and 2023 seasons at New Mexico State where he rushed for 525 yards and 623 yards respectively.
For his career, Thomas has amassed 2,049 yards and scored 16 rushing touchdowns.
Tennessee returns sophomore Peyton Lewis and Desean Bishop for the 2025 season along with incoming freshmen Daune Morris and Justin Baker. Lewis and Bishop copied for 794 yards and 6 touchdowns last season.
The Vols lost two running backs via the portal last month when Cam Seldon left to go to Virginia Tech and Kalifa Keith went to Appalachian State.

Of course, the Vols are also losing Dylan Sampson who is off to the NFL. Sampson rushed for a single season school record 1491 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2024 to lead the way for the Vol offense. In his three seasons in orange, the Louisiana native rushed for 2492 yards and 35 touchdowns in 35 games.
Thomas is also a Louisiana native. He is from Homer, Louisiana. In addition to the Tennessee visit, Thomas has been linked to Central Florida as well as Cal.
To date, Tennessee has landed to players out of the transfer portal in offensive lineman Wendall Moe, who played last season at Arizona and wide receiver Amari Jefferson, who was at Alabama.
