How it Happened: Alabama late blast downs Tennessee 7-6 in series-finale
Tennessee took a 5-4 advantage in the seventh inning, but the lead was short-lived as Gage Miller’s three-run home run in the eighth inning was the difference in Alabama’s 7-6 win over the Vols in the series-finale at Sewell-Thomas Field on Sunday afternoon.
The No. 14 Crimson Tide (17-3, 2-1 SEC) won games two and three of the series to claim the series-victory on the first conference weekend of the season. The No. 5 Volunteers (18-2, 1-2 SEC) dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season with the loss on Sunday.
Nate Snead (4-1) took home the loss for the Vols after allowing four runs off eight hits over 5.1 innings of relief. Matthew Heiberger (2-0) earned the win after throwing the final 2.2 innings of the ballgame. The Vols had a chance in the top of the ninth inning with the bases loaded and only one out, but couldn’t push all the way through.
Tennessee will return home for the next two weeks of conference play and are after it again from Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Tuesday against Xavier. But first, here’s how it all happened for Tennessee in the series-finale against Alabama on Sunday.
