How it Happened: Tennessee responds with 10-7 win over Alabama to even series

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Tennessee’s offense responded in a big way, highlighting the 10-7 win over Alabama on Friday night from Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Southeastern Conference action.
Saturday’s series-finale will be the first rubber match of the campaign for both squads.
The No. 1 Vols (21-2, 4-1 SEC) plated three runs in the first inning and two more in the second to grab an early 5-0 lead. Alabama (22-2, 4-1 SEC) chipped away with two in the third inning and one more in each of the fifth and seventh frames to pull within two runs heading to the eighth. Tennessee then exploded for five more runs in the final three innings.
Hunter Ensley tallied three hits and drove in two runs in the win. Dalton Bargo added a key run of insurance in the seventh on a pinch hit double and then later drove in two on a single. Dean Curley’s two-run homer in the eighth handed Tennessee a four-run lead.
Dylan Loy (W, 4-0) earned the win after picking up the final out of the fifth inning while coming in for starter Marcus Phillips. Alabama’s starter Riley Quick (L, 4-1) took home his first loss of the season after allowing five runs off six hits in two innings of work. Tanner Franklin (S, 2) earned the save by getting the final out of the ballgame with the tying run at the plate.
Prior to the contest, Quick has surrendered three runs off 11 combined hits in five starts.
Up Next: The series is on the line for No. 1 Tennessee and No. 12 Alabama when the two squads meet again on Saturday at 2 o’clock eastern time in the series-finale.
