How it Happened: Tennessee controls Albany throughout, wins 8-5
Another big offensive third inning for Tennessee told the tale Friday night as the Vols held on to win 8-5 over Albany at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Tennessee (5-1) plated five runs in the third inning to take control of the ballgame, finishing the night with the eight runs off 11 hits. Blake Burke later added a two-run home run. The Great Danes (0-1) plated two in the sixth inning and two more in the eighth and one in the ninth to finish the contest with five runs off eight hits.
Chris Stamos (1-0) picked up the win for Tennessee after tossing three innings of two-run baseball. AJ Casey, who entered the ballgame in the seventh as the Vols led by three runs, earned his first Volunteer save. Owen Birkman (0-1) gets the loss for the Great Danes after surrendering five runs (two earned) on seven hits over five innings of work.
Tennessee returns to action Saturday afternoon at 12 pm eastern time for game two of the series against the Great Danes.
